Last October we wrapped up, thermals, woollen socks, decent boots, head torch (taking care not to blind others) and went along camera at the ready to enjoy Fountains Abbey by floodlight, if you don't venture out much of a night it'll take you by surprise just how cold the evenings are now.

We got out of work late and raced along, first making a stop at Studley Royal deer park to take in the sunset. Utterly surrounded by wildlife and treated to a lovely mysterious misty haze like something from storytales. Unfortunately we were too late to set up for any photos... Here's one of the water gardens from another day out!

So off we went to scramble down towards the Abbey, at this time all we could make out in the black sky were the follies and temples lit in the distance and the sound of the performing choir in the cellarium became the monks from the distant past in our imaginations. To top things off there's plenty of hot tasty food, warm drinks and bags of atmosphere.
